Culture
The traditional language of Ursannaia is Dutch, and all Ursannaians born in the country speak this language. However, almost everyone can speak English, as it is taught in all public schools. Speaking English is useful for the country because it is the most widely spread language on earth, and is used is several different areas such as business and tourism. The culture of Ursannaia has been widely influenced by other countries all around the world, due largely to the fact that Ursannaia was a huge trading port in the late 1600's. They were the first Europeans to try tea, and nowadays they are known for their own tea creations. Ursannaians also have a lot of potato and vegetable dishes, but what they are best known for are their desserts. There are several different Ursannaian pies and puddings, most famous is the 'Appeltaart', shown in the picture above.
There are a few national celebrations, the biggest one being the Independence Day, where all citizens of Ursannaia will dress up in blue and yellow, the colours of the flag, to celebrate when the country got its independence from Spain in 1648. This celebration is on January 30th, and as well as dressing up in the national colours, everyone is given the day off from work or school and most people have parties. It's tradition to eat cakes or muffins with blue and yellow frosting on this day.
